Palm Chic, a Lilly Pulitzer signature shop, has become an Old Town Alexandria fixture for tourists and native Alexandrians alike. This bright and cheerful shop (half a block north of the corner of King Street and S. St. Asaph Street) features the vividly patterned resort wear that made Florida's Lilly Pulitzer famous. The Washington, D.C. area and Lilly Pulitzer Designs have a long history together. In the early 1960's First Lady Jackie Kennedy visited her high school friend, Lilly Pulitzer, in Palm Beach and fell in love with the unique and distinctive prints of her friend's new clothing line. Later she wore a "Lilly" in her now famous LIFE magazine photo shoot.

Lilly Pulitzer set the trend. Sporting Hollywood advocates such as Andie MacDowell and Gweyneth Paltrow, it is evident that Lilly Pulitzer designs are always in. Originating in 1968, Lilly Pulitzer has been taking fashion where only the bold can go - and her vibrant, lively colors and floral print designs are just the proof.
Today, Palm Chic brings The Lilly Pulitzer Collection back to the Washington region.

Owner Martha Whitley, an Alexandria native, and the mother of triplets and twins, often outfits herself and five children in Lilly designs. Her pink and white shops stock the full line of Lilly apparel for men, women, and children, as well as an assortment of home fashions, shoes, and accessories.
